Hull have signed Ivan Henjak, the experienced Australian scrum- half from St George, but that does not mean they are abandoning the pursuit of Featherstone's Deryck Fox, writes Dave Hadfield.

Hull's coach, Royce Simmons, announced the signing of Henjak yesterday and the former Western Suburbs and Canberra player, who also had a season with Bradford Northern, eases the immediate pressure following the departure of Greg Mackey for Warrington.

'But we are still as keen as ever on signing Deryck,' Simmonds said. 'Ivan can play stand-off and centre as well as scrum-half and you don't turn your back on players of Fox's class.'

Bradford Northern have had a bid for Fox rejected by Featherstone's board, but Hull hope to piece together a sponsorship package that will raise enough for a more attractive offer.

Nine Wigan players, two of whom have since left the club, are in a Select XIII chosen by last season's First Division coaches to mark the publication of the Rothmans Rugby League Yearbook.

SELECT XIII: Steadman (Castleford); Devereux (Widnes), Bell, Miles, Offiah; Edwards (Wigan), Gregory (Wigan, now Leeds), Ward (St Helens), Dermott, Platt, Betts (Wigan), Mercer (Warrington, now Leeds), Clarke (Wigan).
