Leeds are discussing a one-year contract with their captain, Ellery Hanley, to help end speculation that he is about to leave the club to coach Wigan. Doug Laughton, the Leeds coach, said no agreement had been reached with Hanley. He added: 'Ellery is away at the moment but we will have more talks when he returns. Obviously I would love him to stay with us.' He denied a report that Hanley had been offered pounds 100,000 for a one-year contract. The club are discussing a 12-month deal because that is what they believe Hanley wants.
