Rugby League: Reilly's tenure ends in elation

MALCOLM REILLY, the Halifax and former Great Britain coach - in charge of his last game before taking over at Newcastle Knights - was given a superb send-off as Halifax ran in six second-half tries in their 46-12 drubbing of Hull.

Warrington bounced back after two successive defeats to record their biggest win of the season - 55-6 - against Oldham. The problems continued to mount for the Oldham coach Andy Goodway, who saw his side concede nine tries after suffering a 58-10 thrashing by Wigan last week.

Great Britain's scrum-half Bobby Goulding turned on a towering display to deny Workington their first victory in the top division, the newly promoted club losing to St Helens 25-30. Goulding scored a superb individual try on 62 minutes to put Saints 24-19 ahead. But it took another brilliant break by the scrum-half six minutes from time to set up the deciding try. Goulding broke, found the substitute Apollo Perelini at his shoulder and he put Sonny Nickle over and Goulding's conversion made them safe.

Nathan McAvoy's dramatic injury-time try salvaged a 24-24 draw for Salford against Featherstone, who led 24-14 with only eight minutes remaining. Scott Mahon, the Australian full-back making his home debut, converted his own try to cut the deficit to four points. Then McAvoy raced 30 yards to level the score.

Another full-back in scoring mode was Graham Steadman, who grabbed two second-half tries as Castleford maintained their 100 per cent record with a 28-9 victory over Sheffield. Castleford led 10-1 at the break before Steadman struck twice as the Tigers completed four wins out of four. Sheffield's misery was compounded by the 48th-minute sending-off of their centre Mark Gamson, making his 300th appearance for the club, for a spear tackle on Ian Smales.
