Rugby League: Test for freshmen

THE centenary World Cup draw yesterday paired the newcomers, South Africa and Fiji, with the game's two strongest nations, Australia and the hosts, England, writes Dave Hadfield from Brisbane.

The three-week competition in October 1995 will be launched with a match between England and Australia at Wembley. The final will be at the same stadium three weeks later, with all domestic competition suspended.

WORLD CUP DRAW: Group One: England, Australia, South Africa, Fiji. Group Two: New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga. Group Three: Wales, France, Western Samoa.
