RUGBY UNION

Peter Bromage, currently treasurer of the Rugby Football Union, has been nominated by the RFU Committee to be the first holder of the newly created post of chairman of the executive committee. Bromage's move to one of the two most powerful jobs in English rugby is expected to be approved at the July AGM. Bromage is also chairman of the Test and County Cricket Board disciplinary committee.

The RFU has now agreed that women can become full members of the national committee. The decision was taken after Beverley Ann Davis's attempt to become Cornwall's representative was thwarted by the RFU's insistence that women were not eligible. Davis took her case to the Equal Opportunities Commission.
