Gary Pearce, the former England prop, will make his debut for Nottingham in Saturday's Pilkington Cup fifth-round tie against London Scottish. Pearce, who won 37 caps, joined Nottingham from Northampton last week.

Matthew Dawson, the Northampton scrum-half, has undergone keyhole surgery on the knee ligaments he tore playing for England A against Argentina and could be out of action for two months.

Northampton's former England and British Lions lock, Martin Bayfield, who last played in April, has resumed full training after recovering from a pelvic injury.

Stewart Campbell, the Scotland lock, has become the latest leading player to sign a full-time contract with the Scottish Rugby Union. The move brings the number of "professional" players on the Union's books to 45.
