Bath, the English champions, will play a challenge match against Neath, the Welsh title-holders, on 31 August at Twickenham to open the new season. The following day, Leicester, who lost to Bath in the Pilkington Cup, and Pontypridd, who won the Swalec Cup, play at Cardiff Arms Park.

Abertillery have lost last season's captain, Mark Rossiter, and their former coach, Peter Jones, to Tredegar.
