Gloucester have recruited the former England Colts centre, Alastair Saverimutto, from Third Division Coventry. The 25-year-old, who has also had spells with Bath and Bristol, is the second youngster to join Gloucester within a week, following the move from Bath by the England Under-21 prop-forward. Trevor Woodman.

Doddie Weir is expected to follow his fellow Scot Gary Armstrong to Newcastle within a week. The Scotland second-row forward said yesterday: "I will probably sign next week. There are a couple of things to iron out and I'm quite happy with the way things are looking."
