While Catalans hammer Wakefield and Warrington crash to Widnes

Hull KR piled the pressure on Hull’s coach, Lee Radford, as they secured bragging rights in the first cross-city meeting of the season.

The Robins were 20-6 victors at the KC Stadium, leaving their rivals second from bottom after eight rounds with just four points, and with the prospect of missing the mid-season split a very realistic one.

Hull simply failed to show up and Rovers drew first blood as Terry Campese celebrated his new deal by spinning over after Keiran Dixon’s break.

Dixon then scored the second, spying a gap and going 30 metres to the corner. But then he dropped the ball behind his line, allowing Leon Pryce to pounce on it and give Hull their only try.

Albert Kelly’s high bomb was coughed up by Fetuli Talanoa and sat up perfectly for Shaun Lunt, who scored his third in three games since moving from Huddersfield.

Needing to respond quickly after the break Hull were anaemic, with their kicking unable to put pressure on Dixon, and Josh Mantellato added a 57th-minute penalty.

Damien Cardace scored a second-half hat-trick as a Scott Dureau-inspired Catalans hammered Wakefield 40-4 to record their first victory on the road this season.

Benjamin Garcia’s first try of the season was a blow to Wakefield after a bright start by the hosts and further scores from Willie Tonga, Ben Pomeroy and Elliott Whitehead ended the game as a contest before half-time.

Warrington crashed to a third straight Super League defeat and could be in trouble with the Rugby Football League following crowd trouble in the Cheshire derby.

The game was stopped for eight minutes after a flare was thrown from the stand housing visiting fans, but Widnes maintained their focus to run out 30-10 winners.
