Martin Castrogiovanni is in danger of missing the European Champions Cup final after he was suspended by Racing 92 following photographs of him partying with football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Las Vegas, having told the club he needed time off for a family matter.

Castrogiovanni missed the weekend victory over Leicester Tigers in the semi-finals of the competition that ensures the French side will face Saracens at the Grand Stade de Lyon on 14 May. He informed the Top 14 club that he needed time off to return to the country of his birth, Argentina, to attend a family problem.

Racing approved the Italy prop’s request, but issued a statement on Tuesday to confirm that the 34-year-old has been suspended pending a legal investigation after pictures emerged on social media showing him in Las Vegas alongside members of the Paris Saint-Germain squad.

A Racing statement read: "Following the publication in the media of photographs showing Martin Castrogiovanni with Paris Saint-Germain footballers this weekend at a hotel in Las Vegas, while the entire Racing squad was in Nottingham to contest a European Cup semi-final, Racing 92 have decided to suspend the player as a precautionary measure prior to launching legal proceedings."

As well as Ibrahimovic, Castrogiovanni was pictured with other PSG footballers including Marco Verratti, Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu, who were celebrating their Ligue 1 success after securing the French league title last month. The PSG squad had been afforded some time off by manager Lauren Blanc, having added the French Cup to their collection courtesy of the 2-1 success over Lille on Saturday.
