England vs Wales: Dylan Hartley hails hosts' battling qualities as Wales are brushed aside

England captain Dylan Hartley praised his team after they bounced back to defeat Wales 27-13 at Twickenham.

England were 10-0 down after 14 minutes but a flying start to the second half swung the game their way.

Hartley told Sky Sports 3: "(It was a) slow start from us today, I think Wales came out of the blocks, put us under the pump a bit and we got caught napping.

"Credit to the boys, they stuck in there and we got the win in the end.

"The first 20 minutes of that game we probably weren't quite up to where we needed to be. Full credit to the guys, digging in and getting that result."

Man of the match Joe Launchbury added: "We didn't get off to the best of starts but it was great to see everyone dig in.

"I think the second half we had a bit of control and that was where we got the win.

"I think myself and all the squad wanted to go out there today and put in the best performance they can."

George Ford missed six kicks at goal from seven attempts but Luther Burrell, Anthony Watson, Ben Youngs, Jack Clifford and Marland Yarde claimed touchdowns, while Ford added one conversion.

Wales posted an early Rob Evans try, with fly-half Dan Biggar adding two penalties and a conversion, but England's second-half performance clinched the win.

Wales centre Jamie Roberts said it was "frustrating" to lose after such a good start to the game.

"I think we brought a tempo and an intensity which we didn't bring here in the Six Nations in that first half. That 12-point swing at the start of the second half killed us really."

Roberts added of England's win: "I think they deserved the victory."
