England turned in a spectacular performance in heavy rain to beat Fiji 30-22 in the Hong Kong Sevens final here and claim the title for the first time.
Joe Lydon's side were forced to play without their talismanic hooker Phil Greening, who was cited two minutes before the deadline for alleged stamping during the semi-final victory over Wales. The Wasps player, sent to the sin-bin for the incident during the semi-final, was informed as he walked on to the pitch after a match official had lodged the citing late, leaving England no chance to appeal.
Lydon's side overcame the setback to deliver an outstanding response, James Simpson-Daniel claiming a hat-trick of tries as the midfield pair of Ben Gollings and Henry Paul played the tricky conditions perfectly.
In the Plate final, South Africa beat Scotland 40-7.
