Guinness Premiership Round-up: Keil's coup puts Gloucester top

Gloucester went top of the Guinness Premiership, on points difference from Bristol, after their 21-12 win over Saracens at Kingsholm yesterday.

Gloucester's South African centre Rudi Keil scored the only two tries of the game, Willie Walker kicking a conversion and two penalties and Ludovic Mercier another penalty. Saracens' Kiwi fly-half, Glen Jackson, kicked four penalties.

Andy Farrell, Saracens' rugby league recruit, appeared for the last 10 minutes of the match at inside centre, in place of Ben Johnston.

At Welford Road, Worcester lost 40-21 to a Leicester side missing five England forwards. The Tigers led 23-0 at half-time, thanks to tries by Jordan Crane, Brett Deacon and Tom Varndell and nine points from Paul Burke. Martin Castrogiovanni, the Italy prop, scored his first try for Leicester after the interval and Burke's conversion made it 30-0 before Chris Horsman and Simon Whatling closed the gap to 30-14. Tries from Dan Hipkiss and Shane Jennings cancelled out Lee Best's late score and any hope of a bonus point for Worcester, who are now five points adrift at the bottom.
