Man-for-man marking from the Six Nations encounter at Twickenham

England secured a hard-fought 12-6 victory over Six Nations rivals Wales to maintain their hopes of winning a second Grand Slam triumph in three years.

Two first-half tries from wing Jonny May helped the home side to an early 12-0 lead with Owen Farrell converting the second, only for Wales to hit back with what they thought was a try.

Gareth Anscombe looked to get his hand to a loose ball in England's try area ahead of Anthony Watson, but television match official Glenn Newman decided that Anscombe had not grounded the ball and awarded the decision in England's favour.

With Wales playing a penalty advantage though, Rhys Patchell kicked at goal to get Wales on the board, although the No 10 had already missed a long-range effort from 46 metres out.

The second half saw two evenly-matched sides play out a gruelling Test match encounter that took its toll on the players, with England losing both Sam Simmonds and Anthony Watson to injury. Wales had chances to get across the whitewash, but failed to take their opportunities where England did not, and barring a second penalty from Gareth Anscombe, were not able to snatch victory.
