It’s a big game for…

Rory Best: The Ireland captain will make his 99th appearance for his country on Saturday as they go into the match as heavy favourites. Best captained the side to a historic 40-29 victory over New Zealand in Chicago last Saturday, their first ever win over the Kiwis in 29 matches.

Best stat…

Ireland have scored 170 points in their last four matches against Canada, with the most recent of those being a 50-7 victory at the Millennium Stadium in the pool stage of last year’s World Cup. Canada are currently ranked the 18th best side in world rugby, just below North American rivals USA, while Ireland climbed to 5th place after Saturday’s win.

Remember when…

The closest Canada have ever come to beating Ireland was in June 2000 when Ronan O’Gara kicked a last-minute penalty to level the scores at 27-27 and save his side from a humiliating defeat. The match was played in front of just 6,000 fans and saw Canada lead 21-8 at half-time before Ireland staged an impressive comeback to draw the game.

Player to watch…

Aaron Carpenter: The Canada number 8 made his international debut in 2005 and has played in all three World Cups for his country since. Carpenter, who plays his club rugby for London Welsh, is just three matches away from becoming his country’s most-capped player of all time.
