All attempts to kill-off the Barbarians may have failed so far, but the inescapable fact is that the world-famous invitation club is only a step away from being the most notable casualty of the professional era.

There was a time when this fixture was the high point of Leicester's season. This season it is the only game which has not attracted a capacity crowd.

It was Pat Howard, who will replace John Wells as the Tigers' coach next season, who set the ball rolling with some delicious sleight-of-hand for a try in the fourth minute. The only other try of the half came from the tight-head Christian Califano after a driving maul.

After the break Leicester ran in three tries from Will Johnson, Henry Tuilagi and Alesani Tuilagi. That explosive spell made the game safe. The Baa-Baas replied through Philippe Bernat-Salles and Paul Volley before two more tries from Alesani Tuilagi and one from Sam Vesty settled the issue.
