Round-Up: Lamb leads Gloucester to second bonus-point win

Gloucester recovered from a storming Saracens start at Vicarage Road yesterday to take a winning bonus point for the second successive weekend.

An early Ryan Lamb penalty was quickly cancelled out by Saracens' Scottish fly-half Gordon Ross, who kicked four penalties and two conversions in all, but the young Gloucester fly-half turned the game on its head with his boot and his exciting running game.

Two Lamb penalties preceded a well-worked try for the England centre Anthony Allen which the 21-year-old converted. Another penalty sent Gloucester into the interval with a 19-14 lead.

Saracens started the second half strongly, only for Ross to throw a pass, inside the Gloucester 22 and intended for the lock Hugh Vyvyan, which Lamb intercepted before racing 90 yards to the posts. He converted the try himself.

The Gloucester No 8, Luke Narraway, scored another try before the Saracens replacement Edd Thrower cut his team's deficit with a third try. Gloucester restored their advantage and secured a bonus point with a fourth try, scored in the corner by the replacement full-back Olly Morgan after good work by another replacement, the fly-half Willie Walker, Mike Prendergast and Leon Lloyd.

Saracens settled for a losing bonus point, with Ross kicking his fourth penalty as Gloucester closed out the game.

Shane Geraghty returned from the hamstring injury which wrecked his hopes of going to the World Cup with England to inspire London Irish to victory over Newcastle at the Madejski Stadium.

The 21-year-old fly-half provided the spark missing in last weekend's defeat by Harlequins as the Exiles dominated a poor Newcastle side.

On Saturday, Dean Richards' Harlequins were comfortable 39-15 winners over promoted Leeds as they recorded a second bonus-point victory of the new season at the Twickenham Stoop. Leicester beat Bath 26-16 and Worcester drew 24-24 with Wasps.
