Wigan hope Dobson can kick-start revival

Dobson is due to fly back to Australia this week, but could be rerouted to Wigan if Super League's bottom club have their way. The Warriors are big admirers of Dobson's kicking game and precocious organising skills.

There is considerable paperwork to be done before he could get a British work permit to replace his French one, but Wigan feel it is worth the trouble. Dobson counts on the quota, so it would mean another overseas player, probably the scrum-half Dennis Moran, being released.

Castleford, who were also keen on signing Dobson, have the veteran Brad Davis out of the game for two months and the club's football manager, Mick Robinson, has not yet come up with a suitable candidate.

There will be one distinguished half-back at The Jungle this week, with Shaun Edwards running the rule over the Tigers' training session. The former Wigan and Great Britain star, now coaching at Wasps, has agreed to help his former London Broncos team-mate Terry Matterson, but will not be taking on a role like Ellery Hanley's consultancy last season. "They are great friends from playing together, but it is only for one day," said a Castleford spokesman.

Hull KR, the only team outside Super League in the last eight of the Challenge Cup, are delighted with their home draw against Warrington. Justin Morgan, who steered Toulouse to last season's semi-finals, said: "I'm over the moon. The fact that we're at home is a big one. I've said all along we were looking forward to testing ourselves against a quality Super League side."

Rovers, unbeaten at the top of National League One, expect an 8,000 capacity crowd. "We want to progress and get back into the top flight and this will be a good indication of where we're at," Morgan added.

The favourites have been kept apart, with St Helens at home to the Catalans and Leeds hosting Harlequins, while Salford go to Huddersfield. The games at Hull KR and Leeds will form a BBC double bill on 4 June.

The Great Britain forward Adrian Morley has been given the all clear after fears he had suffered a broken thumb playing for the Sydney Roosters.
