South Africa's flanker Joe van Niekerk has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament. Van Niekerk tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Saturday's 60-10 victory over Samoa.

The Scotland team manager, Dougie Morgan, has responded to claims that an unnamed Scottish player manhandled a woman at a nightclub near Cronulla. Morgan said: "We know which player has been accused and we have spoken to him. At this present moment in time, the matter is closed."

Queensland police announced "additional strategies" to prevent a repeat of the incident at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on Saturday when a spectator ran on to the pitch and tackled South Africa's Louis Koen. The fan, a 29-year-old from Sydney, was taken to hospital. He was released into police custody and charged.
