Manchester United have their sights on Queen's Park Rangers striker Kevin Gallen, according to the Sunday Express, who say that Alex Ferguson has been keen on the England Under-21 striker since he made his debut at Old Trafford last season. Ray Wilkins, however, is determined to keep his young players.

The People, meanwhile, say that Ferguson is renewing his interest in England centre-back Tony Adams but that his request to Bruce Rioch to "name your price" for the veteran stopper was met with a firm "no sale."

Also in The People, Manchester City goalkeeper Tony Coton, squeezed out of the picture by Eike Immel at Maine Road, is said to be a target for Leeds United, who would off-load John Lukic to Nottingham Forest if they can get Coton.

The cash is needed, presumably, to fund the a pounds 1m move by Alan Ball for Southend full-back Chris Powell, predicted by the Sunday Express, who suggest that City might also spend pounds 700,000 on Norwich's Robert Ullathorne.

The News of the World says that Italian clubs are planning "cash now, sign later" offers to persuade overseas stars to commit themselves to no-fee moves to Italy when their contracts end.
