ANOTHER fast and furious third leg was expected overnight for the run from Cherbourg to Rotterdam in the UAP Round Europe Race, writes Stuart Alexander.
With the remains of a blustery south-westerly still blowing, the new Spanish 60, Javier de la Gandara's Galicia Pescanova, took the lead in Cherbourg bay. After six miles Galicia was still 36 seconds ahead of Daniel Malle's La Poste, 1min 22sec ahead of Grant Dalton in New Zealand Endeavour and 2min 52sec ahead of Pierre Felhmann, who made his customary unhurried exit from the blocks.
The second Whitbread 60 was Italy's Brooksfield. With Pierre Mas on board, the pan-European Intrum Justitia is back up to full strength and 36 seconds behind Brooksfield.
