BRITISH competitors scored two wins in the Laser European Championship at Hayling Island yesterday, but it was the Scandinavians, - in particular Wilhelm Suneson of Sweden - who prevailed in a southerly breeze that increased from six knots to 12 knots, writes Stuart Alexander.

Suneson's two first places were not enough to put him top, as Elvind Melleby of Norway displaced Francesco Bruni of Italy. Another Norwegian, Terje-Andre Kjer, is third and Simon Bowes-Cole of Britain is fourth. This quartet is far enough ahead to suggest that one of them will take the overall title, even though two other Britons, Mark Littlejohn and Richard Stenhouse, also won races.
