SAILING

The stop-start America's Cup was due to resume normal operation yesterday after big seas and storm warnings had disrupted an Easter Sunday which saw snow fall in southern California, writes Stuart Alexander from San Diego. Both John Bertrand's oneAustralia and Dennis Conner's Stars & Stripes were determined to stay on the boil after their remarkable wins on Saturday; both Team New Zealand and America3 were determined to upset their plans.

As part of that, Cubed has taken advantage of defender rules allowing changes, with Mighty Mary given a better balanced rudder blade to improve what the skipper, Leslie Egnot, has described as "a beast" to steer.

The third defence syndicate, John Marshall and Kevin Mahaney's Pact '95, are still evaluating their winged rudder.
