Scottish Football: Stevens waits for recall
(First Edition)
WALTER SMITH, the Rangers manager, will delay until today his decision on whether to include the England defender Gary Stevens in the line-up to play Hibernian at Easter Road, writes Andy Oldfield.
Although Stevens played for 90 minutes in a reserve match, following a lay-off because of injuries, Smith does not want to put pressure on him too quickly and may delay his comeback until they play Aberdeen on Tuesday.
Hibernian are waiting to see if their defender Tommy McIntyre, who injured a leg in the Tennents Sixes indoor competition earlier in the week, will be fit.
The Celtic central defender Tony Mowbray has not recovered from a hamstring injury but Tommy Coyne is expected to be fit and be paired up front with Frank McAvennie against Motherwell. The struggling Premier Division side are waiting for the results of a late fitness test on their striker Doug Arnott while their full-back Rob McKinnon is definitely out.
