BUILDING on their success in Nagano, the Olympic silver medallist Ole Christian Furuseth led a Norwegian sweep of the podium in Yong Pyong, South Korea, yesterday, claiming his first World Cup slalom win in almost three years.

One of the original members of the "Attacking Vikings", the 31-year-old veteran of the Norwegian team, who is enjoying one of the best seasons of his long career, followed up his second place at the Winter Games with his first World Cup win since 1995 in Bormio, Italy.

Furuseth, leading after the first run, posted only the ninth-best time on his second trip down the Rainbow course, but still crossed more than a half-second clear of his team-mate Finn-Christian Jagge in a two-run combined time of 1min 39.15sec. The world champion, Tom Stiansen, finished third in 1:40.21.
