Snooker: Davis knocked out by Ebdon
PETER EBDON, the Grand Prix champion, beat Steve Davis 5-2 in the second round of the Benson and Hedges Masters at Wembley last night. He meets Thailand's James Wattana tomorrow for a place in the semi-finals.
Ebdon, a semi-finalist in the Welsh Open last week, stole the first frame when he cleared from the last red to black for a break of 34.
He made breaks of 93, 42 and 84 on the way to a 4-1 lead and although Davis briefly threatened a fightback by winning frame six Ebdon wrapped up proceedings in the next with a composed 59 break.
Earlier in the day Steve James rediscovered some of the form that won him the 1990 Mercantile Credit Classic as he beat Terry Griffiths 5-4. James meets Stephen Hendry, the holder, tomorrow.
