Speed skating: Gooch misses out on medal

Nicky Gooch lost his overall title and was then denied a bronze medal after crashing 10 yards from the finish of the 3,000 metres in the European Short Track Championships in Malmo yesterday.

Gooch had resigned himself to losing his crown after some poor performances earlier in the championships, but despite the disappointment of missing a medal, Gooch picked himself up to help the British team to retain their relay title.
