IEUAN ELLIS, 32, winner of the Reykjavik marathon last August, won the inaugural Kathmandu marathon yesterday in 2hr 24min 10sec. His fellow Briton Hugh Jones was second in 2:25.50.

CHRISTIAN PLAZIAT, the European decathlon champion, has been banned for three months for publicly blaming his team manager Serge Bord for France's poor showing at international level. The suspension means Plaziat will miss the world indoor championships in Toronto in March.
