CARL LEWIS, the six-times Olympic champion who failed to qualify for the 100m and 200m in Barcelona, will take part in his first long jump competition in Britain in the Vauxhall Invitation at Gateshead on 17 July as a final warm-up for the defence of his Olympic crown.

STEVE JONES, the 36-year-old Welsh former world record holder, has agreed to act as Britain's non-travelling reserve for the marathon at the Olympic Games following yesterday's withdrawal through injury of Sam Carey from Warrington.
