A JAVELIN throw of 94.74 metres by the new Olympic champion, Jan Zelezny, in Oslo last month will not be ratified as a world record, the International Amateur Athletic Federation announced yesterday. An IAAF Council meeting ruled that the Czechoslovak's mark would not be recognised because it was set with a javelin which did not meet IAAF specifications. The decision meant that the 91.46m achieved by Britain's Steve Backley in Auckland in January would stand as the world record.
