PETE ROSE, the former Cincinnati Reds manager banned indefinitely from the sport in 1989 for illegal gambling on major league games, has said he is betting again - but not with illegal bookies and not on baseball. 'I went to the Kentucky Derby last year,' Rose said, 'and if people think I'm going to the Kentucky Derby to watch the horses - I can go to the farm to watch the horses.' Rose added that he plans to apply to the commissioner's office for reinstatement to the sport 'in the near future'.
