JACK HOOD, the former British and European welterweight champion, has died, aged 89. 'Gentleman Jack', from Birmingham, won the British title in 1926 when he outpointed Harry Mason, of Leeds. He held it for eight years and won a Lonsdale Belt outright before becoming European champion in 1933 by beating Belgium's Adrien Annett. He retired in 1934 following a 14-year ring career.
