THE Premier League yesterday turned down income of pounds 10m a year and now looks set to start its first season without a sponsor. The 22 chairmen met in London yesterday to discuss lucrative deals offered by the Ford Motor Company and the brewers, Bass. Rick Parry, the Premier League chief executive, said: 'The clubs considered a number of proposals put forward but decided in favour of looking to identify with a sponsor whose product does not conflict with existing club sponsorships.'
LEEDS UNITED will be without their captain Gordon Strachan, for this weekend's Makita International tournament at Elland Road. Strachan needs more time to reach fitness after an operation on his back.
