KEN BATES, the chairman of Chelsea, yesterday warned that the League Cup - which has just secured a pounds 2.25m sponsorship deal with Coca-Cola - could go ahead without the Premier League clubs this season unless a dispute over television income is settled. Bates is demanding a fair share for the 22 Premier clubs from a pounds 24m purse the Football League negotiated over four years with ITV earlier this summer, both for screenings of the new- look Football League and for live coverage of the Coca-Cola League Cup. The Premier League clubs are scheduled to join the competition at the second-round stage next month.
