REAL MADRID have re-signed the Spanish international midfielder, Rafael Martin Vazquez, for pounds 3.5m from Marseille, two years after he left the club for Torino because of a row over money.

MARK AIZLEWOOD, the 33-year-old Bristol City and Wales defender, is to have keyhole surgery on his back which will keep him out until next year.

LOTHAR MATTHAUS, the captain of West Germany's 1990 World Cup winning team who missed last summer's European championship in Sweden because of a knee injury, has been named in Germany's 22-man squad for a friendly international against Mexico in Dresden next Wednesday. The 31-year-old midfielder returned to the Bundesliga last month after moving from Internazionale to Bayern Munich. The game also marks the Marseille striker Rudi Voller's international farewell.
