PAUL AZINGER yesterday birdied seven of the final nine holes for a seven- under-par 65 in the Tournament of Champions on the rain-soaked La Costa Country Club course at Carlsbad, California for a two-shot lead over Davis Love and Bill Glasson going into the second round. Heavy rain washed out the first round on Thursday and tournament officials were hoping each player could complete 36 holes yesterday.

MICKEY WALKER, who inspired Europe's women professionals to Solheim Cup victory over the United States last October, has agreed to coach the 1993 Ladies' Golf Union training squad. The twice former British Amateur champion starts work with the squad in March as they begin the build-up to next year's Curtis Cup defence in America.
