NIGEL MANSELL, despite his crash two weeks ago in Phoenix, won the provisional pole position for today's Toyota Grand Prix at Long Beach, California. Mansell, and nine other drivers, beat last year's lap record of 106.251mph, set by Michael Andretti, over the 1.59-mile track.
