MICHAEL DOOHAN and Daryl Beattie, the Australian Honda riders, took pole position yesterday in the Suzuka Eight Hours race in Japan. Doohan, the winner here in 1991 with the Australian Wayne Gardner, clocked 2min 30.228sec in rainy conditions on the 5.86km (3.64 mile) track.
