CHRISTCHURCH, in New Zealand, will bid to stage the Winter Olympics in 2002.

ORGANISERS of the 1994 Winter Games have rejected proposals to include women's ice hockey in the programme for financial reasons, despite an offer from the Norwegian and international hockey federation to pay half the cost of accomodating six national teams.
