JONATHAN DAVIES is set to leave Widnes for their neighbours Warrington. The former Wales rugby union fly-half, who has two years of his contract left at Widnes, is being released to help ease the club's financial problems. The fee has not been disclosed, but the Warrington chairman Peter Higham said: 'He should sign early next week.'
STEVE HAMPSON, the Great Britain full- back released by the champions Wigan on a free transfer, has joined Mal Reilly's Halifax. The 30-year-old Test player has signed a two-year deal.
WINFIELD CUP: Brisbane 54 South Sydney 8; St George 21 Manly 20; Gold Coast 2 Cronulla 24.
