HUW WOODLAND, the Maesteg captain, is expected to be out for the rest of the year after having surgery on a hand injury. Woodland, a member of the Welsh development squad, broke a bone in Saturday's Heineken League game at Llanelli.

THE appeal of the All Blacks player, Richard Loe, against a nine-month suspension for eye-gouging the Otago full- back Greg Cooper earlier this month has been delayed, the New Zealand Rugby Football Union said yesterday. The appeal was due to be heard on 29 October, but the NZRFU said in a statement that Loe was offered an option of three dates in early December after his representatives said they had not had time to prepare a case.
