BRITAIN'S Matt Humphries, 21, began the New York-to-Southampton race yesterday in his Dolphin & Youth Project Whitbread 60. Also competing are Dennis Conner's Winston and Nance Franck's US Women's Challenge. Two Americans, David Scully and Steve Fossett, will attack the record of 175hr 30min in their 60ft trimaran La Kota in the five-leg two-handed Round Britain Race. The first leg, from Plymouth to Crosshaven, southern Ireland, starts today with a fleet of 52 yachts, 21 from overseas.
