READING were confirmed as Homefire League Division One champions after Arena Essex had beaten Bradford 53-37 last night. Arena also avoided relegation back to Division Two as a result of their victory.

GARY HAVELOCK, the world champion, has been given the all-clear to lead his club, Bradford, in the Speedway Star Cup final first-leg tie against Reading tonight. The world's governing body, the Federation of International Motorcyclists, have dropped a threat to strip Havelock of his world title if he missed the official awards ceremony in Columbus, Ohio, also tonight.
