MARK FOSTER, the world 50-metre record holder, Richard Maden and Karen Rake all failed in their attempt to achieve world championship qualifying times at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff last night. Foster, who swims for Barnet Copthall, failed to achieve his target time of 51.69sec in the 100m, when he was beaten by a Millfield schoolboy Nick Shackell who edged past Foster over the last few metres to record a time of 52.66sec.
