ANDRE AGASSI reached his first final since Wimbledon when he recovered to beat MaliVai Washington 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the Canadian Open. He was 0-2 down in the second set before winning 12 of the last 13 games. Agassi, the second seed, now meets Ivan Lendl for the first time in his career as he attempts to win his third title of the season. The third-seeded Lendl beat the 10th- seeded Australian, Wally Masur, 6-1, 6-2.

DANNY SAPSFORD won the Allied Textiles Ilkey Open title yesterday when he beat Paul Hand 6-4, 6-3. The women's defending champion, Valda Lake, retained her title through a walkover after her opponent Amanda Grunfeld had to pull out with a back injury.
