Sport on television

NOT MUCH sport to speak of on view this week, writes Paul Trow.

The end of July is traditionally quiet - long gone are the Derby, Wimbledon, Grand Prix and Open. ITV and Channel 4 have detected the lull and responded accordingly. But minority interests must be humoured, so we have a final glimpse of the Tour de France today, Dutch Open golf highlights on Sport AM in Tuesday's early hours and a soccer cameo, The Linesman, that afternoon.

On the other side, there is non-stop coverage of something called the 'Olympics'. Adding spice to this elitist dish is Test cricket from Headingley, the NatWest Trophy quarter-finals and racing from 'Glorious Goodwood'.

As I said, a quiet week.
