Ice hockey

A rule change aimed at making the game more open and increase scoring was announced by the International Ice Hockey Federation yesterday. The centre ice offside rule will be scrapped after next year's Nagano Winter Olympics. "We will discuss this rule change with the NHL and perhaps they will follow us, I hope so," Philippe Lacarriere, of the IHF rules committee, said. "We're trying to make the game more offensive, more attractive."
