JOE MONTANA, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, is ready to join the Kansas City Chiefs but his team have not yet agreed to a deal. Carmen Policy, the team president, said there was a 'distinct possibility' Montana would remain with the 49ers, with whom he won four Super Bowl titles before injuries relegated him to a back-up role to Steve Young.
