LINFORD CHRISTIE, the world 100 metres champion, and Franziska van Almsick, the German swimmer, were yesterday voted European Athletes of 1993 by the European sports writers' union. Christie beat the Spanish cyclist Miguel Indurain and Colin Jackson in the men's division while Van Almsick pipped Sally Gunnell and fellow-German Steffi Graf in the women's category.
PRIMO NEBIOLO, the president of the International Amateur Athletics Federation, said yesterday that entry bonuses and richer prizes would be awarded at the 1995 World Championships to meet growing demands by athletes.
