UWE BEYER, West Germany's former hammer world-record holder, died on Thursday at the age of 48, after suffering a heart attack while playing tennis on holiday in Turkey. He took a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 and broke the world record with a throw of 74.3 metres seven years later.
